Disability Outreach
PROJECTS

This project helps to ensure that people with disabilities can get access to our disability outreach service. Monthly assessments are held in areas with no disability support.  This is linked to our Special Educational Needs & Disability Unit which was opened at M’bang’ombe 1 Health Centre in May 2025. The Rehabilitation Technician from the unit will accompany our Health Manager, so that assessments can be made and referrals agreed to appropriate organisations.  We assist with transport and follow ups in supporting the beneficiary.  This may include an assistive device, prosthetic or orthotic assistance, operation, medication, or appropriate therapy.

There are two small Health Centres in our area and they serve a catchment area of 45,000 people!

Because of the lack of health services in our area people have to travel vast distances to be seen by a nurse or doctor. Travel to the clinics is usually by ox and cart but this is an expensive and slow mode of transport. 1 in 6 women die in childbirth, these bicycle ambulances will help save many lives.

We initiated a project to build bicycle ambulances and to provide training to the people in each area so more people can make their way to a health centre.

Thank You to The London Orthotic Consultancy for supporting with this programme
